Lady Gaga has put her money where her mouth is and thrown a whopping $1 million towards the Hurricane Sandy Relief efforts!

No one can deny her concern for her hometown, as Gaga has sent out many a tweet from the road with her love and well wishes. It was only recently that she announced on her blog that she pledged this incredibly generous donation to the American Red Cross.

Along with her pledge, the singer wrote a message from her family to the city and families, who lost so much,

'Please accept this gift on behalf of myself, my parents Joe and Cynthia, and my sister Natali; with our deepest gratitude New York for raising us. Thank you for helping me build my spirit. I will now help you rebuild yours. Sincerely, Lady Gaga and The Germanottas.'

Gaga is not the only celebrity to demonstrate her kindness – Walt Disney Co., many teams of the NFL, and other stars such as Adam Levine, Kevin Bacon and Christina Aguilera donating millions between them.

Last week US TV Network, NBC held a benefit concert with performances from major musical superstars hailing from the storm hit East Coast including Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel and Jon Bon Jovi, who said of the disaster,

'Once again we will have hurdles to clear and challenges we will have to face. When patience is lost ... when it seems helpless ... when you are in need and you feel as if you're alone ... know you are not alone'.

Mother Monster's substantial gift to the Red Cross has really distanced her from the childish feud her pop nemesis Material Girl Madonna is determined to maintain. Obviously still miffed about the similarities between Gaga's 'Born this Way' and Madge's 'Express Yourself', poor old Madonna just cannot let it go.

Gaga hasn't engaged with the grudge match in a while – choosing to devote her efforts to her touring, and sending her love and now gigantic cheque to the victims of the recent disaster.

After proving that she uses her fame and power for such worthy pursuits, I'm not sure I really care if Lady Gaga borrowed her style from the aging songstress. She has shown she is worthy of her star by that act alone!
